Our custom commissions are surprisingly affordable. As long as we have or can obtain reliable information, we will build any vessel, antique or modern, power or sail, naval, commercial, or private.

The USS SAGINAW was the first vessel built by the Mare Island Navy Yard, commissioned 5 January 1860, and re-commissioned on 23 March 1863, after extensive renovations. Our custom model, commissioned by a private individual thoroughly versed in her history and technical details, in a scale of 1:48 (1/4”=1’), is 52” LOA. The model was built pursuant to the original US Navy plans of 1858 and 1863 and features individual copper plates on her bottom, two 30 pound iron parrots on swivel mounts, and four brass 24 pound boat howitzers on circular mounts, all with bulwarks that lower to allow the guns to train. Her color scheme was confirmed by Mr. Dana Wegner, Curator of Naval Ship Models.

Dr. Al Ross has done it again with his newest model, USS ARLEIGH BURKE, DDG-51. The BURKE is the class leader of our Navy’s guided missile destroyer fleet, and features the sophisticated AEGIS radar system. She features a stealthy, modern silhouette and is considered a break-through design.

BlueJacket’s kit is in a scale of 1:192 (1/16”=1’), yielding a finished model 32” long. A truly multi-media kit featuring a carved, laminated basswood hull, multiple sheets of etched brass, custom Britannia fittings, laser cut and resin parts.
