BlueJacket is pleased to offer a 24 hour modeling course, in conjunction with Fiber Arts College (www.fibercollege.org) and the Penobscot Marine Museum (www.penobscotmarinemuseum.org), taking place between Thursday, 9/9/10 and Sunday, 9/12/10. There is a limit of 12 participants.
The classes will be conducted by internationally known modeler Dr. Al Ross, and take place at the Penobscot Marine Museum, Searsport, ME. The course will run concurrently with the courses offered by the Fiber College (see www.FiberCollege.org). It is designed to teach the basics of wooden boat modeling, and is appropriate for all skill levels, including those with no prior experience. The subject is YANKEE HERO, an 1889 Maine fishing sloop designed to transport sardines to processing plants. The YANKEE HERO was an actual boat whose model is in the National Watercraft Collection of the Smithsonian.
The modeler will learn the essential of working with a solid hull, laser cut wood for the cabin and deck, bending wood, creating spars, the essentials of rigging, as well as techniques for painting and finishing the model.
The cost for the entire 4 day course, including all materials-instruction manual, full sized plans, boat hull, fittings, rigging, paint, glue, and all necessary tools-is $250.00 (+$25.00 registration). The modeler will own the tools and supplies as a start for their own modeling toolbox.

This is a particularly lovely model of a 27’ HackerCraft (+ 3’ swim platform), built in a scale of 3/4”=1’. It was commissioned as a surprise birthday gift for a gentleman with a very considerate wife.
